Chelsea wing-back target poised to extend Roma stay

Alessandro Florenzi: Linked with move to United

Roma star Alessandro Florenzi looks set to disappoint Chelsea and sign a new deal at the Stadio Olimpico.

The 26-year-old defender, who can also play as a wing-back, has made 12 appearances in Serie A this season and according to Calciomercato is set to follow the lead of Diego Perotti and Kostas Manolas in penning a new long-term deal with the club.

Florenzi’s current contract runs out in 2019 and is expected to sign up until 2022 or 2023, with talks said to be at an advanced stage.

The news will come as a disappointment to Blues boss Antonio Conte, who was hoping that Florenzi would provide strong competition in the wing-back spots at Stamford Bridge.

Serie A rivals Juventus had also been linked with the player as a potential replacement for Chelsea and Manchester United target Alex Sandro, but will probably now have to turn their attentions elsewhere.
