Juventus have assumed pole position in the race to sign Chelsea wideman Willian next summer, should the Brazilian refuse to sign a prospective new two year deal.

Willian has entered the last year of his contract at Stamford Bridge, meaning potential foreign suitors will be free to negotiate with the player directly in January ahead of signing him to a permanent deal in the summer.

The Brazil international has entered his seventh season with the London club, but at the age of 31 and new boss Lampard making a conscious effort to blood impressive youngsters the like of Callum Hudson-Odoi and Mason Mount, his time as a regular starter may be coming to an end.

The Express report that ‘Frank Lampard is keen to keep Willian’ but that ‘talks over a prospective new two-year contract are yet to be opened.’

The Turin club have made a habit of signing high profile Premier League players as free agents upon conclusion of their contracts, with Emre Can from Liverpool and Aaron Ramsey from Arsenal two notable examples.

The report goes on to claim that Juventus have ‘cast their eye towards Willian’ with his potential transfer possibly opening the door to a long-awaited move for Paulo Dybala next summer.
