Chesterfield to honour champions

The Robins bagged the title last weekend with a goalless home draw against Coventry and they travel to Derbyshire seven points clear at the top of the table with just two matches remaining.

Spireites boss Paul Cook believes Steve Cotterill’s team are worthy champions and he and his players plan to show them their respect when they emerge from the tunnel on Saturday.

“Will there be a guard of honour? Yes, definitely,” Cook said.

“They are champions so I can only see that being the respectful thing to do. They are top of the league, and clear at the top of the league, because they are the best team in the league.

“The table at this stage of the season doesn’t lie so we will show them that respect before the game but then, of course, we will be trying to win it.

“Bristol City may not be the best team we have faced this season, other teams might play a bit better football. But they can adapt and play in different ways to get themselves over the line.

“They can be a skilful, passing team and they can be a direct team, and there’s not many teams can do both successfully.”
