Classy Arsenal, Tottenham attacking target sends clear message to Barcelona over summer Nou Camp stay

Raphinha and Ferran Torres of Barcelona

Barcelona winger Ferran Torres has reportedly sent the club a message regarding his long-term future amid significant interest in his services from north London duo Arsenal and Tottenham.

The two Premier League giants are both expected to try and add to their attacking talent in the summer transfer window, with former Manchester City star Torres emerging as a major target.

Barca are currently blessed with some top attacking talent but their forward play has not always been up to scratch this season. Indeed, it’s their astonishing defensive record that is the main reason for them being 12 points clear at the top of the table.

Xavi’s men have scored 49 goals in 26 league outings, two behind Real Madrid’s 51. However, they’ve only conceded nine at the other end of the pitch.

Their lack of a threat at times in attack can be put down to a loss of form from Robert Lewandowski, while Ousmane Dembele continues to struggle with injuries and both Torres and the highly-rated Ansu Fati have often flattered to deceive.

That has left impressive former Leeds man Raphinha, who has also been linked with a Premier League return, as their main threat in recent weeks. But, despite his struggles, it appears that Torres has no intention of quitting the Camp Nou.

Torres still hopes to play major role at Barcelona

A report from Sport states that the 23-year-old is desperate to be part of Xavi’s project moving forwards.

Indeed, he’s said to be convinced that he will eventually get the chance to become a regular starter.

However, Torres‘ stance over his future is likely to cause Barcelona problems as they look to cash in on some of their stars to help with their economic situation.

The Spain international attacker is a valuable commodity due to his ability to play anywhere across the forward line. But his preferred position is on the right, where Barca currently have Raphinha excelling.

To that end, the Catalan side have been exploring the possibility of cashing in on both Torres of Fati this summer.

But ultimately the club and not the player will decide his future, which still gives Arsenal and Spurs some hope that a deal could happen.

The north London duo are back in Premier League action this weekend when the Gunners host Leeds on Saturday and Tottenham head to Everton on Monday evening.
