Pundit claims Jurgen Klopp could turn divisive Arsenal man into major star

Stan Collymore says controversial Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi is good enough to fit in at either Liverpool or Manchester City.

Guendouzi faces an uncertain future at Arsenal after a turbulent second season in north London.

The Frenchman initially got into a heated row with manager Mikel Arteta during February’s warm-weather training break. He was in the spotlight again last month, though, grabbing Brighton striker Neal Maupay’s throat.

While Guendouzi escaped an FA ban for the latter action, reports claim Arteta was not so lenient, forcing the midfielder to train alone.

As such, Arsenal are reportedly keen to send Guendouzi on his way, scheduling a meeting about his future.

Barcelona are among the teams allegedly keen on the Frenchman but, speaking to the Daily Mirror, Collymore said while their respective managers would be unlikely to make a move, Guendouzi could fit in at either Liverpool or City.

“Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp might feel he’s not good enough for Manchester City or Liverpool, but I’d be inclined to disagree, because being around good players he could thrive,” the pundit said.

“I’m not saying he’d get into either’s first XI now. But he could play for either club, the talent is that obvious.”

Guendouzi has not featured in any of Arsenal’s matchday squads since the incident with Maupay.

However, Arteta has refused to enter into detail on the situation, saying earlier this month: “It’s still the situation as it was before.”

The 21-year-old moved to The Emirates from Lorient in 2018 and has made 82 appearances so far.

ARSENAL LEARN OF ROCA DISCOUNT?

Elsewhere, reports claim Arsenal are monitoring the situation after Marc Roca’s asking price tumbled.

Espanyol midfielder Roca could be available for up to £18million less than originally thought. The drop in price comes following the club’s relegation from LaLiga last week.

And La Razon says Arteta “dreams” of partnering Roca alongside Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey.

Partey reportedly has a release clause of €50million (£45million) in his contract.
