Comments from Napoli chief leaves door open for Man Utd swoop

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has offered hope to Premier League clubs who are interested in Real Madrid playmaker James Rodriguez.

The Colombia international moved to Bayern on a two year loan deal in July 2017 and played 67 games, scoring 15 goals and winning two Bundesliga trophies, two DFL Supercups and one DFB Pokal.

Having spent the last two seasons on loan in Germany, Bayern could have triggered a deal to sign him permanently for €42million, however they decided not to take that option..

Bayern’s CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge recently revealed why the midfielder won’t be returning to the Allianz Arena again next season, and it seemed a switch to join Carlo Ancelotti at Napoli was on the cards.

The power is now all in Real Madrid’s hands despite the fact the former Monaco man has apparently agreed personal terms with Napoli, and De Laurentiis has admitted that terms still need to be agreed.

“James is the footballer who, after Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi, is considered one of the best,” De Laurentiis told Corriere dello Sport.

“Ancelotti likes him very much, and James wants a move to Napoli, but we are waiting for a more reasonable demand from Real. They have high demands in our opinion.”

This news will be welcomed by Manchester United, Chelsea and Juventus who have all expressed an interest in the 27 year old.
