Confident Harry Redknapp makes bold Kane, Tottenham transfer claim

Harry Redknapp believes that the new Tottenham boss will convince Harry Kane to stay with an exciting transfer window of spending.

Kane‘s future has become the subject of debate over recent months, with the striker approaching the peak of his career. But while he turns 28 in July, he will do so without having any major winners’ medals in his cabinet. Spurs’ trophy drought will go on after their 1-0 defeat to Manchester City in Sunday’s Carabao Cup final.

What’s more, while he remains under contract until 2024, there are suggestions that Kane could leave this summer.

Reports claim that he will look to depart if Tottenham fail to qualify for next season’s Champions League; Chelsea put themselves in the driving seat for fourth place with Saturday’s win over West Ham.

According to ex-Spurs boss Redknapp, though, the new Tottenham boss will convince Kane to stay with some exciting new signings.

Ryan Mason is in interim charge of the north London club, who have yet to find Jose Mourinho’s permanent successor.

“I think he’ll stay. I think the new manager will come in and convince him that they’ll be having a go and signing a few more players,” the pundit said.

“There’s nobody better than him. I wouldn’t swap him for any centre-forward in the world, personally. He would guarantee Man City, Man Utd or Liverpool winning the league next season, for sure.

“He’s a fantastic player. Tottenham have to keep him.”

'You can't blame Harry Kane for wanting trophies'

Gabby Agbonlahor told Super Sunday Matchday he is not surprised that Harry Kane will ask to leave Tottenham this summer if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.

Redknapp added that, despite the trophy drought and the struggle for a top-four finish, the Tottenham puzzle is not too far away from being completed.

“Everything is in place at Tottenham,” he added. “They’ve got the best stadium in England, bar none, they’ve got an incredible training ground, which is out of this world, and they have good players.

“OK, maybe they need to shift one or two out who have come to the end of their time, and get one or two in.

“But if they do, anything can happen. They could be right there challenging next season.”

Redknapp bemused at Mourinho sack

Redknapp added that he was surprised to see Mourinho get the sack on Monday morning, despite the rumours that were swirling over his future.

“It was a really strange one,” he said. “The timing, for sure. There was talk of Jose going, but I couldn’t see it happening when it did. I don’t know what’s gone on, but there’s got to be a reason behind it.

“One thing is for sure, Tottenham will have someone in place already. I know how Daniel Levy works. He’ll have spoken to someone, got somebody in place, someone he can’t get at the moment because he’s in a job, so he’s given it to Ryan Mason until the end of the season.

“Then, in the summer, somebody will come in who is already in a job at the moment. It won’t be Ryan. He won’t be getting the job, as nice as we can try to be about him.

“He was a young boy when I had him, he was a very quiet boy. It’s a great opportunity for him, but I wouldn’t say I saw it coming!

“He’s not a big, outgoing personality, that’s for sure. But I knew him when he was very young. It’s a big change to go from working with the kids to suddenly managing a big football club, under all this pressure. It’s a different world, a different game.”

Spurs return to action next Sunday when facing Sheffield United in north London.
