Newcastle reach contract ‘breakthrough’ with integral star as timeline for announcement revealed after Liverpool rumours

Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton

Newcastle United fans will be delighted after learning the club will soon announce a new contract for one of their most important players, amid recent transfer links with Liverpool.

Following Manchester United’s 1-0 defeat to Brighton on Thursday night, Newcastle are in a brilliant position to finish third in the Premier League. They are two points ahead of Erik ten Hag’s side after playing the same amount of matches, while they also boast a far superior goal difference.

Newcastle qualifying for next season’s Champions League would be brilliant for two reasons. First of all, Magpies fans have not seen their team appear in Europe’s premier club competition since 2003, so they would be very excited about returning to play against the continent’s elite.

Secondly, qualifying for the Champions League would give Newcastle a big boost for their summer transfer plans. And Eddie Howe is on the lookout for some top talent.

The manager is expected to greenlight a Newcastle swoop for Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney, who is hoping to leave North London in search of game time. Although, Newcastle will face competition from Aston Villa for him.

There are also growing rumours Newcastle might complete a shock move for Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar. As per Graeme Bailey of 90Min, Newcastle want a ‘marquee’ signing this summer and Neymar fits the bill. And he would be available for £75m, despite PSG originally spending a whopping £200m on him.

While trying to improve the senior squad, Newcastle must also make sure they do not lose some of their most influential stars.

On Wednesday, reports emerging from Spain revealed Jurgen Klopp’s interest in landing Bruno Guimaraes for Liverpool.

Newcastle leave Liverpool disappointed with new contract

The central midfielder has been a revelation for Newcastle since joining in January last year, quickly emerging into a fan favourite. But it is claimed Liverpool are drawing up plans to submit an £88m offer for him.

Newcastle, though, are ready to hand the Brazil international a new contract to ensure he remains at St James’ Park. As per Football Insider, Newcastle have reached a ‘breakthrough’ in contract talks with Guimaraes and his camp.

The fresh terms are ‘all wrapped up’ and will be announced by the Tyneside club once the season ends. While Guimaraes’ current deal expires in 2026, his new one will be designed to keep him in the North East until 2028.

Newcastle will also reward Guimaraes for his top performances since joining by handing him a pay rise. Spotrac claim he is currently Newcastle’s joint-highest earner alongside striker Alexander Isak, taking home £120,000 per week. But the new contract will make the all-action midfielder Newcastle’s outright highest earner.

The report adds Newcastle ‘have no interest’ in letting Guimaraes leave as they view him as being crucial to the future project. Keeping players like Guimaraes on board will be important if the Magpies are to get in the mix for league titles and do well in Europe.

The 25-year-old himself seems very comfortable at St James’ Park and has shown no signs of wanting to leave for a more trophy-laden club. He is fully backing the Newcastle project and believes it can offer him everything he wants in his career.

Meanwhile, Newcastle are being tipped to add a France star to their ranks to partner Guimaraes and Joe Willock in midfield.
