Contract details revealed as David Alaba agrees move following Prem talks

David Alaba

David Alaba has finally agreed his next move and will sign for Real Madrid as a free agent this summer in news that will disappoint a number of Premier League suitors.

The Premier League champions are one of a handful of clubs who held talks with the soon-to-be-out-of-contract defender.

Last month David Ornstein of The Athletic claimed Liverpool had a “strong interest” in Alaba.

Reliable transfer expert Fabrizio Romano also claimed recently that the Reds were “among the five clubs” that have contacted the player ahead of a proposed summer move. Further details of the talks Liverpool held were outlined here.

Manchester City were also among those to make contact, while recently Chelsea were credited with an interest.

However, the Austrian always dreamed of playing for Real Madrid and it his hopes look now set to materialise.

Indeed, The Guardian are among several sources who write that Alaba has agreed a pre-contract agreement with Los Blancos.

Real have drawn up a pre-contract agreement once Alaba has passed a medical. The 28-year-old will sign a deal until June 2025 worth a €230,000 (£204,000) a week after tax.

The deal is not thought to affect Real’s plans to keep captain Sergio Ramos. The long-serving defender remains in talks over an extension at the Bernabeu. The 34-year-old has been linked with a move to Tottenham.

Alaba won nine Bundesliga titles and two Champions Leagues during his time at Bayern. He moved to Bavaria from Austria Vienna in 2008.

Alaba rejected Bayern advances

Alaba will leave Bayern this summer after the Bundesliga giants saw several efforts to offer him a new deal spurned.

Sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic all-but guaranteeed his exit as early as November.

Discussing the situation that led to his contract snub, he explained why Bayern are already planning for life without him.

“I can tell you what happened. We negotiated and made David an offer. He refused it. Ten days ago we sat down again and submitted another offer – with a deadline,” Salihamidzic told Sky Deutsche.

“We informed David and his agent that we would withdraw the offer when the deadline expired. We did that. I spoke to his agent again on Saturday and tried to talk to David again on Sunday because I wanted to know what was going on, but not much happened.

“I don’t know anymore how we will find a way back together. We made an offer but he didn’t want to sign. Now we have to assume that David will leave us.

“At some point we wanted to have planning security and know how things would go from here. Then we all made that decision as a club. With Jerome Boateng, Lucas Hernandez, Niklas Sule, Benjamin Pavard – we have cover in this position.”
