Contract, salary agreed but Man Utd forced to pay more for Alex Telles

Manchester United have agreed a contract and salary with Alex Telles but complications remain over the Porto left-back’s fee, according to a report.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to find competition for England international Luke Shaw down the left flank.

Sergio Reguilon was a top consideration but the 23-year-old has now completed a move to Tottenham.

As such, the Red Devils turned to Telles, who has entered the final year of his Porto deal. His contractual situation has meant that Porto are open to recouping a fee for their star player while the opportunity remains.

Indeed, one report claimed Porto have swung the doors “wide open” for United to bring the Brazilian to Old Trafford.

According to Correio de Manha, United are close to sealing a deal, with the key terms of Telles’ transfer agreed.

The 27-year-old will reportedly earn €4million (£3.6million) per year on a five-year contract, with “everything settled” in that side of negotiations.

However, complications remain over the transfer fee United will pay for Telles, with Porto needing to adhere to several previously-agreed clauses.

Porto must pay 10% of the transfer fee to Galatasaray, who included the sell-on clause when offloading Telles.

What’s more, super-agents Pini Zahavi and Jorge Mendes are playing key roles in the transfer. Indeed, both representatives want to split 15% of the final price.

As such, Porto have had to raise their initial €20million (£18million) valuation to €27million (£24.7million).

It is unclear whether United have agreed to pay the extra £6million for Telles, with a £23million alternative eyed.

As previously reported, Correio de Manha claims United will turn to Nicolas Tagliafico if their hunt for Telles fails.

Tagliafico has two years left on his Ajax contract and previously suffered from a lack in Amsterdam.

However, that stance has since changed, with Ajax’s director of football Marc Overmars offering the player fresh terms.
