Coronavirus scuppers Man Utd hopes of landing former Prem striker

Odion Ighalo has seen a potential dream move to Manchester United scuppered by the coronavirus, TEAMtalk can reveal.

The 30-year-old was one a host of strikers offered to United this week, as they scour the world looking for attacking reinforcements.

The former Watford striker emerged as a target with his Chinese club Shanghai Greenland Shenhua willing to sanction a loan move.

United had been keen to fly Ighalo to England before deadline day, but a club Insider has confirmed that a deal is now off as Ighalo can’t travel.

And even if Ighalo could move, he would be in Quarantine for two weeks.

United, meanwhile, have seemingly switched their attentions to a former striker in Bournemouth’s Josh King.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer revealed he was chasing a late addition to his forward line after Wednesday’s win over Manchester City.

Solskjaer said he was keen to add a striker who would “break a nose to score a goal” but so far his attempts have hit a brick wall, including a move for 28-year-old King.

 

The Daily Mail and The Telegraph reported that United had made an approach for the Norwegian striker as they looked for cover for the injured Marcus Rashford, and Howe all but admitted that on Friday.

Bournemouth though have rejected an initial offer for the player, whom Solskjaer worked with at Old Trafford over a decade ago, but the Cherries boss did not seem too hopeful of keeping his star man. Read more…
