According to a report in Spain, Philippe Coutinho has told his new Barcelona team-mates that Liverpool are hoping to sign Karim Benzema in the summer.

Barca finally signed Coutinho last month in a £142million deal after failing to land the 25-year-old in the summer.

Coutinho, who returned to Liverpool recently for a special leaving party, is still very close to Brazilian compatriot Roberto Firmino and the rest of the Reds squad.

And, according to Don Balon, Coutinho has been informed that Jurgen Klopp is trying to land France forward Benzema in the summer.

The Real Madrid striker looks like being one of the fall guys after Los Blancos’ disappointing domestic season. The 30-year-old has struggled to find his best form and has managed just seven goals in 27 appearances this season.

Benzema is under contract until 2021, but Zinedine Zidane is expected to ring the changes in the summer and the Champions League winners have been linked with Harry Kane and Mauro Icardi as they look to revamp their forward line.
