Peter Crouch ‘staggered’ at calls for Klopp to sell star-studded Liverpool trio

Peter Crouch says that it “staggers” him to see some pundits calling for Liverpool to sell either of their famed front three this summer.

Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino have scored 300 goals between them for the Reds. While the former pair have netted most of them, manager Jurgen Klopp has hailed Firmino’s other qualities. However, calls have emerged from some pundits calling for Liverpool to sell one, if not more of the three.

Richard Dunne claimed that Salah has become disinterested with life at Anfield. He added that there is “no point” keeping the Egyptian if he is not feeling at his best.

Mane has also faced calls to get the axe amid his drop-off in form.

The Senegal international scored his first goal in 10 Premier League games against Leeds on Monday night. But he is on course for his lowest season tally since he moved to Merseyside in 2016.

However, Peter Crouch questioned such calls in a column for the Daily Mail.

The ex-Liverpool striker wrote: “I wouldn’t sell any of them. Why would you even think of doing that unless one of them wanted to go?

“I understand Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino have not hit the heights we have expected of them this season but that doesn’t mean their time is up.

Jurgen Klopp: Sadio Mane form not a concern

Jurgen Klopp acknowledges Sadio Mane's lack of form in front of goal but has backed the player to turn it around and is not concerned by it.

“It staggers me that we live in a world where cancel culture is growing by the day.

“A player is out of form for a season? Sell him. A manager underperforms? Sack him.”

Crouch added that the achievements of the trio since they joined forces in 2017 must be put into perspective.

Crouch demands Liverpool reality check

“It’s a miserable way to go on and let’s just put what Mo Salah, Mane and Firmino have achieved in context,” he said.

“They are the front three who brought the title to Liverpool after 30 years and there is plenty of life in them still.

“I bet you if Mane or Firmino went somewhere else, they would be exhilarating.

Jurgen Klopp, for one, will not be in any hurry to let them go.”

The contracts of all three players run out in the summer of 2023.

Nevertheless, reports claim that there is a ‘very real feeling’ from within Anfield that Salah is thinking about leaving the club.
