Cureton on cue~to sink Tykes

The hosts handed a debut to Alex Pearce, who joined the club on loan from Reading in January.

But the home side were indebted to David Marshall for keeping them on level terms as he made a superb save to keep out Brian Howard’s fiercely-struck shot after 17 minutes.

Barnsley had another chance to open their account on 24 but, from Bobby Hassell’s free-kick, Anderson de Silva sent his header the wrong side of the post.

Those missed opportunities proved costly as Norwich grabbed the lead after 26 minutes when Cureton steered home Lee Croft’s cross.

Ched Evans let fly from 18 yards on 58 minutes only to see his shot rattle the woodwork before Luke Steele saved late on from Croft.
