Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones has said that he will happily accept a coach’s claim that he shows similar traits to Sadio Mane and Adam Lallana.

Amid Liverpool’s drastic injury crisis, Jones has proved a success story for boss Jurgen Klopp. The 19-year-old has stepped up impressively to play a key role alongside the likes of Georginio Wijnaldum and Jordan Henderson.

Indeed, he has played five of the Reds’ last six games and earned starts in four of those matches.

Speaking to talkSPORT (via the Liverpool Echo), ex-Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy revealed that a club youth coach had compared him to winger Mane and former Red Lallana.

Mane has achieved deadly consistency in front of goal to become one of the best wingers in the world. Lallana, meanwhile, was a vital cog in Klopp’s team before his summer departure for Brighton.

Asked about the coach’s statement, Jones said: “Wow. I’ve not really ever compared myself to another player.

“I’ve always said my style of play is similar to players who like to have a bit of flair in the game and be confident on the ball.

“To be referred to as Mane and Lallana? Wow. Mane is just a different level in terms of how he plays. I think he finished fourth in the Ballon d’Or.

“I spent two years around Lallana. The stuff he used to do in training, I used to be blown away by it. To be referred to as those two, I’ll take it.”

Jones has benefitted from significant game time with several of Liverpool‘s midfielders out over recent weeks.

Indeed, despite Henderson returning on Saturday, Naby Keita, Thiago Alcantara, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and – most recently injured James Milner – are all still on the sidelines.

And while it is unclear if he will keep the same level of game time once those players return, the England Under-21 international has announced himself in his manager’s plans.

Klopp told to stop moaning

Jurgen Klopp

With Liverpool harbouring a significant injury list this season, Klopp has taken his anger out on his club’s intense schedule.

Indeed, he recently took aim at BT Sport for selecting Liverpool for Saturday’s 12.30pm kick-off against Brighton.

But Chris Sutton has slammed Klopp’s rants as “pathetic”. He insists that the German should end his agenda.
