Tottenham propose mutual termination of defender’s contract
Spurs are reportedly planning to offer Danny Rose a pay-off to get him off the wage bill at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Football Insider reports that Jose Mourinho is considering paying up the defender’s contract, which has until June 2021 to run.
Rose is on around £70,000 a week and would be due around £2.4million with a mutual termination. Daniel Levy though will almost certainly make an offer to the full-back to get him off the wage bill.
The former England man has not kicked a ball for Spurs this season and has not been included in their 25-man Premier League squad or the club’s Europa League squad.
The 30-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Newcastle. He made 13 appearances for the Magpies but they did not pursue a permanent deal for him in the summer.
The source claims Rose turned down a deadline-day move to Watford last week. Meanwhile, Middlesbrough failed with an ambitious loan move for Rose.
Rose fell out of favour under Jose Mourinho and the player was vocal over his lack of game time.
The Amazon documentary showed Rose and Mourinho discussing his prospects in an awkward meeting.
After a rare start in the defeat to Liverpool in January 2020, Rose went to find out “what the problem is”.
Mourinho asked Rose what he meant, with Rose saying: “You know exactly what I mean, how I’m being treated. “I was very excited when you came as manager, but if you don’t want me to play, I’d rather you just tell me now, and I’ll stay at home gaffer, and I’ll train at home.”

Mourinho explained that he was “fantastic in training” prior to the game against Liverpool, where he felt he didn’t play well. He was subsequently withdrawn in the second half.
Mourinho then explained that Japhet Tanganga’s performances were the main reason why Rose wasn’t getting a look-in. Rose claimed other players had been “s***” in training and matches but continue to get games and ended the conversation stating he would be going to see chairman Daniel Levy, before walking out.
Now with £28m signing Sergio Reguilon slotting in at left-back, Rose’s claims have taken a further knock. Ben Davies has also returned to fitness and Rose is well down the pecking order.
