National team coach declares Man Utd flop must have a career ‘review’

The national head coach of an out of favour Man Utd star offered a mixed message about his future at the club, simultaneously declaring that he “isn’t panicking” about his situation but must “review” it at season’s end.
Man Utd experienced mixed fortunes in the last summer transfer window.
The arrival of Edinson Cavani was initially met with scepticism. The Uruguayan has confounded expectations however to become one of the club’s key forwards this campaign – despite a recent rift.
Alex Telles has provided adequate depth at left-back behind Luke Shaw, but the biggest story was Donny Van de Beek.
The Dutchman arrived in Manchester last summer as a marquee signing following his stellar form for Ajax.
He has since struggled for match minutes and underperformed in limited opportunities since his move to England.
The Dutchman has only started two of United‘s top-flight games this term. Furthermore, his 13 outings in the league amount to only 311 minutes from a possible 1,170.
A recent report detailed the measures the ‘stunned’ 23-year-old will allegedly go to to resolve the situation.
Now, speaking to talkSPORT (via Goal), Netherlands national team coach Frank De Boer has given his verdict on the matter.
Regarding speculation of Van de Beek seeking an early exit back to Ajax, the ex-Crystal Palace boss said: “I spoke to Ajax and they said there’s no truth in it at all. He didn’t ask to speak to them.
“He’s just focusing on his recovery on his ankle, and it’s not true that he asked Man Utd to leave.
“His agent also told me that of course he’s not happy that he’s not playing. He’s only had two starts under Solskjaer and that’s not what he hoped for when he joined Man Utd.
“He’s not worried, of course he wants to play every game. But he’s not worried that he can’t succeed.
“He has to have a review after this year, asking where do I stand? Do I have a possibility to succeed here or not? Otherwise, I have to make a move.
“We will see where he’s heading next year, maybe he stays at Man Utd or maybe another club is interesting for him.
“But he’s not panicking at all, he told the manager he’s so happy at Man Utd because the club is one of the best in terms of how they treat him, he feels loved.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer offers injury update on Anthony Martial and Donny van de Beek
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer offers an injury update on striker Anthony Martial and midfielder Donny van de Beek.
Meanwhile, David de Gea, Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani and Van De Beek are back for Manchester United’s crunch Europa League trip to AC Milan.
With the round of 16 clash tied at 1-1 after last week’s first leg at Old Trafford, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side head to Italy bolstered by returning players.
United have confirmed Pogba is available for the first time since sustaining a thigh complaint against Everton on February 6, while Cavani and Van De Beek are also in the squad heading to Italy.
De Gea is involved after returning from paternity leave in Spain, but Anthony Martial, Eric Bailly and Shola Shoretire will not travel.
