Deal agreed as Sheffield Utd prepare to welcome back Man Utd keeper

Dean Henderson is poised to be announced as a Sheffield United player for the 2019/20 season after the Blades reportedly agreed to bring the player back from Manchester United on loan.

The 22-year-old goalkeeper earned rave reviews on loan at Championship runners-up Sheffield United, and his progress has been clear over the last couple of years after spending a 12-month loan spell with Shrewsbury in 2017-18 and being named in the League One team of the year.

The Blades have been working hard at trying to bring him back to Bramall Lane for their return to the Premier League, but their hopes were very much tied in with the fate of David De Gea, with United keen to tie down the Spaniard to a new deal before allowing Henderson to move on.

But with De Gea reportedly on the brink of sealing a new £350,000 a week deal at Old Trafford, United are now happy to let Henderson move on and the Daily Mirror reports than an agreement has now been struck to bring the England U21 keeper back to South Yorkshire.

“It sounds unbelievable [to be a Premier League goalkeeper],” Henderson said earlier this summer when discussing his future.

“That was the dream as a kid growing up, what you always aspire to be. You always watch Premier League Years on the telly and to know that could be me next year, I can’t wait.

“Whether that is at Manchester United, Sheffield United, wherever, I’m good enough to be a Premier League goalkeeper. I deserve that chance.

“It’s a tough one to say where. But do I think I should be playing at Manchester United now? Yes I do.

“I think I am good enough and I would help the team a lot, in a positive way.

“If not there I’m sure I could go back to Sheffield United, play a season and then I’ll prove to Manchester United what they are missing.

“I would give my right leg to play for that football club [Man Utd].

“That has been my dream since I was a little boy, being a fan. I just know I’m working hard in the background and waiting for any little opportunity that comes up. If it does, I will take it for the next 10 to 15 years.”

Dean Henderson TEAMtalk

Blades boss Chris Wilder will be delighted to get his hands on Henderson once again, with the 22-year-old having a major role in the club’s promotion last season and the club’s obvious lack of a No 1 causing some mild concern at Bramall Lane.

But Henderson is now expected to seal a second season’s loan with Sheffield United and continue his development with the Blades in the Premier League.

Sheffield United are also expected to secure the signing of winger Ben Osborne from Nottingham Forest shortly, having had a £5m bid accepted.

Mark Duffy, meanwhile, has been told to leave Sheffield United after a bust-up over a new contract at Bramall Lane.
