Henderson makes it clear to Man Utd boss Solskjaer what his plans are

Dean Henderson TEAMtalk

Dean Henderson has made it clear he will not sit around at Manchester United and be David de Gea’s understudy next season.

The on-loan keeper has warned Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that he may have to consider his future at Old Trafford in the summer if he cannot displace the Spanish star.

Henderson has set sights set on the Three Lions’ jersey and the No.1 role at United, but he is well aware he has to dislodge De Gea from his place at the top of the table.

Whitehaven-born Henderson recently agreed to extend his loan at Sheffield United until the end of the season and he was again in good form as the Blades shocked Spurs at Bramall Lane on Thursday night.

The 23-year-old has kept 11 clean sheets in 30 games for Chris Wilder’s men and signed a new United contract until 2022 last summer before returning to Bramall Lane.

Henderson has big plans and he has made it clear what he his thinking  ahead of the summer.

“I think it’s clear for everyone to know. I want to play for Manchester United and England,” Henderson told TV3.

“It feels like I always hit a brick wall. Maybe I’ll get the opportunity [to play for Man United], maybe I won’t, then I’ll have to look down a different avenue.

“The fans have to remember what he’s [De Gea] done for the last nine years – he’s been phenomenal.

“He’s probably been the best player at United for that time period. He should get another opportunity.

“I’m a young lad and I’m working hard. I’m a fan of the club and I want to play for them. Hopefully I have a career at Man United like David de Gea has.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has maintained that De Gea remains “the best goalkeeper in the world”.

The United boss did insist, though, that Henderson would become the club’s No. 1 in the years to come.

Whether that will be next season remains to be seen, but what is clear is that the former Shrewsbury loan stopper will not be hanging around on the bench at Old Trafford.

De Gea decision due

David de Gea TEAMtalk

The Manchester Evening News have claimed Henderson “has already been inundated with offers” with Chelsea and Tottenham believed to be among his admirers.

They also claimed United are prepared to offer the talented keeper a new and improved offer with his existing deal running until 2022 with the option of another 12 months.

Henderson though is thought to be reticent to sign the deal unless he is promised the top job for United next season and that will of course mean Solskjaer dropping David de Gea.

Apparently De Gea will have until the end of the season until a decision is made on his long-term future after his wobbles this term.
