Henderson armed with stern demand ahead of crunch Solskjaer talks

Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson will demand boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer installs him as the new No. 1 or allow him to leave, according to a report.

Henderson has arrived back at Old Trafford after a second stellar season on loan at Sheffield United.

The first saw him star in the Championship, helping the Blades secure promotion. This term, he made the step up to the Premier League seamlessly, finishing joint-third in the race for the Golden Glove.

As such, the 23-year-old Englishman now feels he is ready to challenge David de Gea at Old Trafford.

Indeed The Sun claims he will enter “showdown talks” with Solskjaer ahead of the new season. Ahead of those talks, Henderson has reportedly prepared the stern message in a bid to persuade his manager.

The speculation over Henderson’s future coincides with doubts about David de Gea’s form. In March, he joined Jordan Pickford in producing seven errors since the start of last season, the top flight’s joint-worst record.

What’s more, De Gea was in poor form after the restart before United eventually finished third.

Another tangent to Henderson’s future is reports that Chelsea are keen on the goalkeeper. Blues boss Frank Lampard is reportedly after a new first choice between the sticks amid doubts about Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Several names, including Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak, have been touted but Henderson is reportedly another top consideration.

In July, Henderson insisted that he could look for a “different avenue” if his United dream did not work out.

He told TV3: “I think it’s clear for everyone to know. I want to play for Manchester United and England.

“It feels like I always hit a brick wall. Maybe I’ll get the opportunity [to play for Man Utd], maybe I won’t, then I’ll have to look down a different avenue.”
