Mathieu Debuchy: Arsenal right-back won't be joining West Brom

Mathieu Debuchy is reported to have informed Arsene Wenger he wants to leave Arsenal in the January transfer window.

Debuchy has lost his place at right-back to Hector Bellerin, making only two appearances in the Premier League this season, and he fears missing out on a place in France’s Euro 2016 squad.

According to the Daily Mail, the 30-year-old has now held talks with Wenger to inform him of his desire to move on when the transfer window reopens, with both Roma and Lyon said to be interested.

“It’s not impossible Debuchy will leave,” Wenger said. “I happy for him to stay, but we’ll see.”

A move could have a knock-on effect for Calum Chambers, who is reportedly wanted back on loan by Southampton, but may be needed as cover for Bellerin, as well as in midfield and central defence, if Debuchy leaves Emirates Stadium.

Wenger said on Wednesday that he expected to be “busy” in the transfer market, with one deal for FC Basel midfielder Mohamed Elneny already said to be close.
