Declan Rice, Harry Kane Tottenham v West Ham October 2020

West Ham midfielder Declan Rice has followed up his interest in a transfer to Manchester United by talking about life at Old Trafford with two club stars, a report claims.

Rice has made himself one of the hottest properties in the Premier League following his recent rise to stardom. After emerging at the end of the 2016/17 season, he has gone on to make 128 top-flight appearances. What’s more, his recent knee injury has ended a run where he played every minute of the past two seasons.

Speculation began to mount over his future in the summer of 2018. However, his prominent status in the England fold has risen his profile further.

As such, the Manchester Evening News claims that United continue to hold a firm interest.

But the newspaper now reports a big development, with Rice himself taking action over his interest in a move there.

Rice reportedly talked to Red Devils captain Harry Maguire and left-back Luke Shaw at the latest England camp.

The players discussed ‘aspects of United’, however, the report does not give any more detail on their negotiations.

Red Devils goalkeeper Dean Henderson also featured in Gareth Southgate’s latest team.

However, the source notes that Rice specifically talked to Maguire and Shaw about life at Old Trafford.

The Manchester Evening News adds that United have a history of targeting English players after major tournaments.

Maguire moved from Leicester after the World Cup in 2018, where he helped lead the Three Lions to the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, Rio Ferdinand, Michael Carrick and Wayne Rooney all signed between 2002 and 2006.

The newspaper adds that United have ‘tracked Rice for more than two years’.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are looking for a new long-term star in defensive midfield.

But while the 22-year-old can also play centre-back, United scouts reportedly believe that he could become a ‘box-to-box’ asset.

He has shown flashes of such talent for the Hammers, but largely spends his time further back in the team.

Rice is a strong contender to feature in Southgate’s squad for the delayed European Championships this summer.
