Lyon star forward Moussa Dembele has expressed his desire to leave Lyon for Manchester United in the summer, according to reports.

The French forward signed for the Ligue 1 giants following a successful two-year tenure at Scottish Premier League leaders Celtic, where he amassed an incredible 25 goals and 15 assists in 53 league games.

Since then, the 23-year-old has managed an equally impressive 28 goals and six assists in 57 games.

And his impressive goalscoring abilities has captured the attention of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has been given a boost by the Ligue 1 outfit admitting they are open to selling their star man in summer, according to the Express.

It was reported that the Red Devils tried to sign the centre-forward in January, but due to key injuries in the Lyon squad, the Ligue 1 side were unwilling to allow the player to leave.

The United boss subsequently turned his focus to Odion Ighalo, sealing the loan deal for the Nigerian international from Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua on deadline day.

But Solskjaer is not likely to sign Ighalo on a permanent basis in the summer, and will therefore look to the summer transfer window for a long-term striking option.

And according to Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol, a deal in the summer for Dembele is likely to happen.

He wrote: “Manchester United will sign a striker in the summer and Lyon’s Moussa Dembele wants to move to Old Trafford.

“Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas will let Dembele leave in the summer but he will have to settle for less than his €100m (£83m) asking price.

“Chelsea tried to sign Dembele last month [January] and were willing to pay up to £40m and he has also been watched by Manchester City, Newcastle and West Ham.”
