Details of De Gea contract reveal Man Utd may have saved millions

Manchester United may have reportedly saved millions by agreeing the new four-year contract handed to goalkeeper David de Gea on Monday.

Spanish stopper De Gea – who has recently been the subject of continued speculation linking him with a move away from Old Trafford – finally ended the rumours by putting pen to paper on a new four-year deal that has the option of a one-year extension.

According to the Daily Mirror, De Gea will be earning a cool £375,000 per week on his new terms, which makes the deal – if all five years are taken – worth £97m.

The newspaper adds that United may have saved money because Jan Oblak, who is said to be the club’s top target if their current first-choice ‘keeper left, would have cost the Red Devils around £106m to bring in.

De Gea was impressive for Ole Gunnar Solskjar’s side as the Spaniard helped keep a clean sheet in Saturday’s Premier League victory over Leicester at Old Trafford.

United‘s next game sees them face Astana in the group stages of the Europa League.
