Devastating Man Utd and Chelsea target ‘offered’ summer switch after eye-catching Tottenham snub

Borussia Monchengladbach striker Marcus Thuram

A Man Utd and Chelsea-linked striker who’s certain to be on the move at season’s end has been ‘offered’ away after a telling Tottenham snub, per a report.

The Red Devils and Blues are both in the market for a brand new centre-forward over the summer. Manchester United landed Wout Weghorst on a six-month loan in January. However, he’s only a short-term fix and has recently been moved out of the No 9 role anyway.

Erik ten Hag now deploys Marcus Rashford as his central striker. Weghorst drops in at No 10, with Bruno Fernandes pushed out to the right and Jadon Sancho on the left.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have forked out well in excess of £500m on new recruits over the last two windows. Yet remarkably, they’ve foregone signing a competent striker who can find the net with regularity.

Both sides have been linked with Napoli’s Victor Osimhen who will cost north of £100m. Harry Kane is another high profile frontman on United’s radar, though today’s update regards Marcus Thuram.

The Frenchman has been a revelation since being converted from a left winger into a central striker at Borussia Monchengladbach this season.

Marcus – the son of 1998 World Cup winner Lilian Thuram – has bagged 14 goals and four assists in 22 matches in German football this year.

His exploits in the Bundesliga earned him a deserved place in Didier Deschamps’ France squad at the World Cup and Thuram featured heavily in the knockout rounds.

However, his time at Gladbach is almost certainly coming to an end. His current contract expires in the summer and Gladbach are fully aware they cannot retain a player of Thuram’s calibre.

The fact he’ll be available as a free agent heightens his appeal greatly. His versatility and willingness to press will also be keenly noted by the likes of Erik ten Hag and Graham Potter.

A recent report from the Times claimed it was Tottenham and Newcastle who were ready to make an offer to Thuram and his camp.

However, the latest from Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo has revealed Thuram has already been offered to one club, while Spurs and Newcastle were not even mentioned when listing his many suitors.

Who’ll win Marcus Thuram sweepstakes?

Mundo reported Thuram and his agents are looking for a major step up from Gladbach and have set their sights on Barcelona. What’s more, it’s claimed the Frenchman has already been ‘offered’ to Xavi’s side.

The fact he’ll be a free agent aids Barca’s cause greatly given their well-documented financial strife. There’s a past connection with Barcelona too given Marcus’ father, Lilian, played for the club between 2006-08.

However, plenty of other sides are ‘attentive’ to Thuram’s situation and those in the Premier League especially would be able to offer a far more lucrative package financially.

On that front, both Man Utd and Chelsea are namechecked as being in the mix for Thuram’s signature. From further afield, PSG, Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan are cited. Newcastle and Tottenham are not mentioned once.

Of the English pair named, it’s important to note the trusted Gianluca Di Marzio previously stated Chelsea had made an offer to sign Thuram in January.

A move obviously did not occur, but it at least showed Chelsea were willing to act on their interest in the player.

Whether Man Utd will follow suit come the summer, only time will tell.
