Giovanni Simeone TEAMtalk

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone says he will never sign his son, despite the striker having “everything”.

Argentinian Simeone has flatly refused to ever contemplate signing the 23-year-old striker.

Giovanni Simeone, 23, has been a huge hit in Serie A since making his debut for Genoa after arriving from River Plate in August 2016.

Simeone Jnr, who has been linked with Spurs, hit 13 goals before being transferred to Fiorentina in August 2017 for around €18million, penning a five year contract.  And he scored 15 goals in 41 games last season as he continued to improve in the Italian top flight.

Despite his progress though Simeone says he would never sign his son because of the problems it would pose behind the scenes.

“He has everything but I will never sign him,” Simeone told Cadena Cope on Monday night.

“Unfortunately, I’m never going to sign him for my team, I never want to totally rule the possibility out on one hand but it would be very difficult to have a son in the locker room.

“It would be difficult for him, for me, for the relationship…and besides, right now he is doing great, maybe one day I’m not at Atletico, maybe he can come.

“I’m excited to see him play for the national team, he has all the ingredients to be a success.”
