Divock Origi has not told Liverpool that he would like to leave, but the club would not stand in his way if he did, a report claims.

Origi has been a Liverpool player since 2014. He is held in high regard by the Anfield faithful for his role in their Champions League triumph in 2019.

However, he has never been a regular starter for the club, and has been restricted to just eight minutes of action in the Premier League this season.

Origi has started three games in the Champions League and one in the Carabao Cup this season. He has scored two goals in the latter competition.

Overall, though, he would have been hoping for a bigger role in the team. The form of Diogo Jota after his arrival only added to his difficulties breaking into the lineup.

Therefore, there have been rumours that Origi could bid Anfield farewell in January. Most recently, he has been linked with Inter Milan.

There were also claims that the Belgium international could move to another Premier League club, such as Leeds or Wolves. However, only the latter seem to possess a strong interest, and even that may have faded in favour of other targets.

Hence, the Liverpool Echo claims that Origi could stay put in January. Liverpool are not actively looking to sell the 25-year-old despite not giving him much gametime.

Therefore, if the two parties were to go their separate ways, Origi would have to push for a move himself. At the minute, that is not the case.

The report says Origi has not indicated that he wants to depart, so Liverpool are expecting a quiet January.

However, Liverpool would be open to letting Origi leave if he does push for an exit. As a sign of gratitude for his service to the club, they would not stand in his way if he wanted to move on.

At present, though, they are continuing to plan for a future that involves the striker.

Shaqiri also set to stay

Likewise, Xherdan Shaqiri is expected to stay despite also being linked with an exit.

The Swiss international has also fallen down the pecking order in recent months. He has also failed to start a league game this season and only made two starts last term.

However, the recent injury to Jota has forced Liverpool to reconsider their plans. Shaqiri is valued for his versatility and could provide cover until the Portugal international recovers.

Indeed, Shaqiri has recently shaken off his own injury – which had been the cause of some confusion for his international manager.
