Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will have been laughing at his keyboard had he seen Don Balon’s latest report on Sunday night.
The Spanish outlet have a tendency to report the most obscure transfer links and their latest involving Sadio Mane is right up there.
The offer has apparently been made by Madrid president Florentino Perez as he plots “a much deeper restructuring than was originally planned”.
That has been prompted by Real’s latest defeat in LaLiga to Alaves. Los Blancos were beaten 2-1 at home with Asensio starting before being hooked on 63 minutes.
Perez is apparently ready to offload Asensio, 24, who has been with Madrid since 2014.
Zinedine Zidane is staying out of it, according to the report. After the game Zidane said: “I have to find the solution with the players. I am not going to say it here.
“We must not only think about the negative. We also have to see what we did well and try to be more consistent.”
Mane though is said to be a favourite of the Frenchman. While, Klopp is also believed to be an admirer of Asensio. That’s probably about as far as the story goes though.
While Real would no doubt love Mane, who has scored five goals and grabbed three assists this season, Liverpool would not want to lose him.
Klopp has transformed the former Southampton man into a world-class performer and 86 goals in 184 appearances for the champions means he has at least tripled his £34m price tag from June 2016.
Meanwhile, Klopp is expecting a hard game against Ajax in the Champions League on Tuesday.
The Reds won in Amsterdam on matchday one and need victory again to ensure their progress to the last 16.
Asked if Ajax will pose another tough test, Klopp said: “Yeah, why should I not expect a close game?
“Ajax is a really good side and since our game, they’re flying through the league, big results, clear top of the table, very talented. Some players are coming back so [with] these kind of things I expect a close game.”
