Van de Beek tipped for transfer after Man Utd treatment labelled a ‘joke’

Donny van de Beek Man Utd v Young Boys September 2021

Donny van de Beek has been tipped to join Everton in January after one pundit labelled his treatment at Manchester United as a “joke”.

The Holland midfielder has had a nightmare spell at Old Trafford since his £36m signing from Ajax in the summer of 2020.

The 24-year-old managed just four starts in the Premier League in 2020/21, and this term his game time has been just as limited. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has summoned Van de Beek from the bench for just four minutes in seven games in the league.

Van de Beek was hooked at half-time in the Champions League defeat at Young Boys. He did get a 90-minute runout in the EFL Cup defeat to West Ham, but has not been seen since.

And rumours have started to emerge that the Dutch international has told his representatives to get him a move in January.

Calciomercato say  “the agents of the former Ajax (sic) have been working hard for weeks to study an exit plan already in the January market”.

Calciomercato.it have suggested Serie A pair Juventus and Inter Milan are keen on Van de Beek,

While Everton transfer chief Marcel Brands has admitted Everton tried twice to land him in the summer.

Speaking to NOS, Brands opened up on the talks with United.

Donny van de Beek's agent working tirelessly to secure move away

Donny van de Beek's agent is reportedly working tirelessly to secure the Dutchman a move away from Old Trafford, with more updates on Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele, and Edinson Cavani.

“We had him on our list,” Brands said. “At the beginning of the transfer window, we enquired at United, then it was impossible.

“At the end of the window, I received a call from Guido Albers, his agent, that he might be rented out after all. But at the last minute it was cancelled. Stopped again.”

The midfielder has started showing visible signs of frustration. He was seen throwing his chewing gum from the bench after Fred came on ahead of him in the 2-1 defeat to Villarreal recently.

And now ex-Aston Villa and England attacker Gabriel Agbonlahor says the midfielder is “trapped” and needs releasing.

‘Give Van de Beek a run of games’

Agbonlahor told Football Insider: “I think they will.

“It’s turning into a joke now. Man United need to just let him go and play football. You’re trapping him at the club and not giving him any minutes.

“With the performances of Fred and McTominay, Van De Beek deserves a chance to show what he can do.

“Man United need to let him go in January and play some football. The kid just wants to play football.

“He needs a run of games. Not just the occasion 60 minutes. Give him a run of games.”

Van de Beek is under contract at Old Trafford until the summer of 2025.
