Downing hails England show
England have won all six of their matches since finishing bottom of Group D in Brazil and making a humiliating exit from the World Cup.
England notched a comfortable 3-1 win over Scotland at Celtic Park but the West Ham wingers said the team were never in danger of underestimating the opposition in Glasgow.
“I think a lot of people had us down to lose the game after the win Scotland had the other night. They are a difficult team to play against, they are well organised and work hard and put us under a lot of pressure,” he said.
“They made it difficult for us in the first 15-20 minutes, but I thought we dealt with it really well and I thought the quality came through with the goals. It was a decent performance from us and a good win.
“That’s the way to respond to the disappointment of the World Cup – to win and play well along the way. I think we have done that.
“I think the quality shone through with the goals, there was some nice passing and movement.”
