Earth-shattering signing moves step closer as Cristiano Ronaldo reaches ‘agreement’

Cristiano Ronaldo has reached an agreement to join Manchester City, who now must find a breakthrough with Juventus, according to reports.
The transfer window is showing no signs of fizzling out, with several high-profile moves still on the cards. None would be bigger, if not in terms of transfer fee, than Ronaldo joining City. Speculation has been intense in recent days about the legendary forward moving to the Premier League champions.
Of course, Ronaldo used to play for City’s rivals Manchester United, with whom he built up a relationship of great fondness. That may be about to become undone.
Earlier this month, the Portugal international was offered to City by his agent Jorge Mendes. Ronaldo is in the final year of his contract at Juventus, who may benefit financially from getting his wages off the books.
After missing out on Harry Kane, it seems City have been receptive to the offer of Ronaldo’s services. A report yesterday even claimed he thinks he could be a City player by the weekend.
Things have escalated even further today. A meeting took place between agent Jorge Mendes and Juventus this morning, after which a flurry of claims have emerged.
The accuracy of each one remains to be seen. But the most significant come from AS and Calciomercato.it, who both believe Ronaldo has reached an agreement over terms with City. He has been offered €15m per season over a two-year deal.

Liverpool eye up Lucas Ocampos as cover on the wings, Jorge Mendes confirms Cristiano Ronaldo stance and Bernardo Silva in tug of war between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, all in today's transfer chatter.
The ball is now in the club’s court as they aim to strike a deal with Juventus. While they want to acquire Ronaldo without a transfer fee, Juventus would prefer to receive at least €25m for the 36-year-old.
Both reports also claim Juventus are trying to take Gabriel Jesus in return, but City would prefer to keep him. Instead, Raheem Sterling could be on offer, although what the Italians really need is a centre-forward.
Conflicting claims over Ronaldo progress
Sky Sports were more cautious, claiming that no agreement was found after the meeting between Mendes and Juventus. At present, no further talks have been planned. But City are the only contenders for Ronaldo’s signature, with PSG not currently in the running.
Gazzetta Dello Sport believe Mendes is now talking to City to work out what their concrete offer will be. The minimum price of €25m is once again reiterated.
Elsewhere, there is more optimism about just how close a deal is for Ronaldo to return to Manchester, this time on the blue side.
Citing reports in Portugal, the Daily Mail report that Ronaldo has already spoken to City boss Pep Guardiola. There is seemingly more confidence in the player’s home country about the deal getting done.
It would be a move that would send shockwaves not just through Manchester, but the entire football world.
