Eddie Howe plots transfer fireworks as Newcastle battle Arsenal, Tottenham for Germany ace who wants Prem move

Eddie Howe and Newcastle United are going big with their summer transfer plans as they are ready to rival Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur for a Germany international, according to a report.

The Magpies enjoyed a fantastic weekend as they beat Manchester United 2-0 at home on Sunday. Joe Willock and Callum Wilson were the goalscorers as Newcastle got revenge on Man Utd for their Carabao Cup final defeat.

The victory also worked wonders for Newcastle’s league position. They now sit third in the Premier League, above Tottenham and Man Utd on goal difference. Newcastle and Man Utd also have two games in hand on the north London club.

It would be a brilliant achievement if Newcastle made the top four for the first time since the 2002-03 campaign. Champions League qualification would also give the Tyneside club a big helping hand when trying to attract top players this summer, and some talented stars could join.

Newcastle are interested in Bayer Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby, Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney and breakout La Liga star Gabri Veiga.

But Howe also hopes Newcastle can beat Arsenal and Tottenham to the capture of a Borussia Dortmund ace. As per German outlet Bild, Newcastle have joined the race for Julian Brandt.

Arsenal and Spurs have previously been alerted to the midfielder’s availability due to his contract running down. It expires in June 2024 and Dortmund have yet to organise a new one, meaning Brandt could leave for a reduced price this summer.

But Arsenal and Spurs will now face competition from Newcastle for Brandt. Howe believes the Germany international could be a great addition to the Newcastle squad as he can play either as a central attacking midfielder or as a winger on either flank.

Newcastle, Arsenal target wants Prem experience

Newcastle, Arsenal and Spurs have all been given hope about landing Brandt due to his transfer stance. Bild report that he has told friends he would like to try out the Premier League, should a Dortmund exit become official.

Brandt has extensive experience in the Bundesliga, having represented Wolfsburg, Bayer Leverkusen and Dortmund in the division. But he is now considering trying something new, and the Prem is high up in his thinking.

Due to their wealthy Saudi Arabian owners, Newcastle have the money to offer the playmaker a lucrative contract. And as mentioned previously, UCL qualification would show him that the club’s project is on the right path.

Spurs will struggle to convince Brandt to join them if they miss out on the top four and only make the Europa League. Arsenal will probably be Newcastle’s biggest rivals for the player’s signature.

The Gunners sit top of the table and could win their first Prem crown since the glory days of Arsene Wenger’s era. It would not take much convincing for Mikel Arteta’s side to snare Brandt, so Newcastle must go down other routes to get him first. One potential option is to offer him a better financial package than Arsenal.

It would be great to see Brandt move to the Prem. He is a top creator who would be able to add goals and assists to whichever English side he ends up joining. It is now up to Newcastle to take him to the north east before Arsenal or Spurs can get hold of him.

Meanwhile, TEAMtalk understands Newcastle have held talks about the signing of a Leicester player, although he is currently pricing himself out of a move.
