Real Madrid winger Eden Hazard’s frustration over his latest injury has increased after watching his side draw Liverpool in the Champions League, a report claims.

The Reds and Los Blancos will clash in the quarter-finals in April, in a repeat of the 2018 final.

The recent history between the two sides has, therefore, seen key sub-plots emerge as topics of debate.

Mohamed Salah’s reunion with Sergio Ramos will prove an exciting watch; the pair clashed in Kiev, resulting in Salah going off in tears with an injured shoulder.

According to Defensa Central, though, Hazard has become frustrated after learning that his chance to return to form against a side he knows well is not on the agenda.

Indeed, Hazard has suffered yet another muscle issue and is considering a third ankle operation.

But while he was aware that he would likely miss the quarter-finals, seeing his side matched with Liverpool has made his frustrations grow.

Hazard has a strong record against Liverpool after several match-ups with the Reds with Chelsea.

For instance, in his final season with the Blues, his goal at Anfield knocked Liverpool out of the Carabao Cup.

As such, Defensa Central adds that the Belgian felt that the quarter-final match-up could have been ‘his’ game.

Furthermore, he has become angry at having to miss the chance of playing a ‘special’ rival.

The report notes that, in the best-case scenario, Hazard will only return in time for the second leg.

Senior physician warns Hazard of operation risks

However, that remains unlikely for now and a leading physician has warned of the effects of another ankle operation on his career.

Dr Jose Gonzalez, who works for Atletico Madrid, told Onda Cero: “Hazard has to train with the team for up to 10 training sessions.

“In my experience it is difficult for him to return to playing at his level with Real Madrid this season.

“If a player returns after a long injury without having hardly trained, the most normal thing is that he is injured again.

“He has anxiety, he wants to show that he is worth and wants to give 100 per cent and he is not there for that.

“A third operation on Eden Hazard’s ankle is very risky, there could be the possibility that the player would not play football again.”

Madrid got through to the last eight by beating Atalanta, while Liverpool won 4-0 on aggregate against RB Leipzig in their last 16 tie.
