Cavani names tactic Man Utd must not let up to avoid ‘dangerous’ scenario

Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani says that his side must continue to focus on mastering their pressing game if they are to maintain their strong form.

The Red Devils‘ draw with Liverpool on Sunday maintained their lead over the champions at three points.

What’s more, the 0-0 stalemate extended United’s Premier League unbeaten run to 12 matches.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s side also remain unbeaten away from home in the top flight in 16 games.

Their recent upturn in form has come from a tendency to press and cause sides problems. Indeed, United’s tactics often allow them to employ their deadly counter-attacking potential.

Speaking ahead of his side’s trip to Fulham on Wednesday, Cavani urged his side to maintain their tactics.

Asked if defending from the front is important, the Uruguayan told United’s official website: “Yes, absolutely, as you say, the work starts from the pressing and closing down you do in attack, in order to try to prevent the ball from getting too close to our own area and creating dangerous situations near our goal.

“I think it’s a job that the whole team does together as a unit, and I also believe that it’s something we need to do even more of, in order to be able to keep competing hard until the end of the season.”

Fulham welcome United to Craven Cottage having put in a battling performance despite their loss to Chelsea on Saturday.

The Cottagers have gained five points from their last six matches, coming from five successive draws.

Cavani wary of Fulham challenge

“As I was saying before, Fulham will know very well that they have Manchester United coming up next, and they’ll be going all out to try and beat us, like they have done in the past and just like what we’ve seen with other teams like Burnley, who always give their utmost,” Cavani said.

“So we need to be aware that it’s going to be a tough game and that we have to be 100 per cent focused, in order to take care of all the details so we can try to win the game in order to remain in the league position that we currently occupy.”

United had sat top at the end of last weekend but Leicester’s victory over Chelsea on Tuesday moved them to the summit.

While United can go back above the Foxes with victory at Fulham, though, Manchester City can move top by beating Aston Villa in their game in hand – also on Wednesday.
