Stephan El Shaarawy is hoping for a fresh start at Roma after joining the club on loan for the rest of the season from Serie A rivals AC Milan.
The striker has returned to Italy after a disappointing loan spell at Monaco, and the Italy striker – who was once mentioned as a possible £30million transfer target for the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea – hopes the move reignites his career.
“I’m very determined and excited, Roma is a fresh start for me,” he said.
“I’ve come here with a lot of humility to try and turn my career around.
“Everyone at the club has given me a nice, warm welcome and I met my new team-mates. I’m delighted.
“I had a chance to speak to sporting director Walter Sabatini and I thanked him for the faith he’s shown in me and the opportunity he’s afforded me along with the coach, Luciano Spalletti.
“I spoke to Sabatini face to face and chatted to Spalletti on the phone and I feel they’re really behind me. I’m pleased and I hope to repay the faith they’ve shown in me through my performances on the pitch, so we can achieve great things.
“Spalletti asked me how I was and if I was happy and keen to join Roma. I made him realise just how determined I am and how much I want to come and play here.
“I’ve had some issues over the last few months but I’m here to show what I can do – to myself, the coach and Italian football as a whole.”
