Chelsea star still awaiting green light from former boss to seal €25m exit

Emerson Palmieri Loftus-Cheek TEAMtalk

Chelsea will accept an offer of around €20m for Emerson Palmieri after the left-back reportedly agreed personal terms with Inter Milan.

Emerson’s long-term future at Stamford Bridge has come into question in recent weeks. The Italy international featured in more Premier League games under Frank Lampard than under Maurizio Sarri the season before, but there have been reports of a potential return to Serie A.

Inter Milan have been heavily linked with a bid for Emerson in recent months. Such a move would see the 26-year-old reunite with ex-Blues boss Antonio Conte – the man who initially brought him to the Premier League.

Inter would have to beat competition from Juventus to sign the ex-Roma full-back. But – with his agent having denied any interest from the Serie A champions – it appears they are on the verge of doing so.

According to Calciomercato.it, Inter have reached an agreement with Emerson over personal terms. The player will sign a five-year contract at San Siro, earning €2.2m per season.

Before he can complete the move, though, he must await the green light from both Chelsea and Conte.

Neither party should stand his way too forcefully. The report claims Chelsea are willing to accept an offer of €20m plus €5m in bonuses for the Brazilian-born player.

That just leaves Conte needing to give his approval. The manager’s future at Inter is in doubt after a single season, despite them falling just one point short of the Serie A title. But should he commit, then Inter will be able to launch their bid for Emerson.

Calciomercato warn Inter that Napoli are also watching on for a potential opportunity. However, if Conte agrees to stay at Inter, then Emerson could follow him to San Siro.

CHELSEA THREATENED IN LEFT-BACK PURSUIT

Should Emerson finalise his departure, then Chelsea will need to look for a replacement. Their top target so far is Ben Chilwell.

However, they have not been able to meet Leicester’s high asking price for the England regular. And they have now received a further blow in their pursuit of the 23-year-old.

According to the Mirror, Manchester United have now re-entered the race for Chilwell.
