Emery makes his feeling clear about Ramsey contract situation

Unai Emery was once again as evasive as possible when he was asked about Aaron Ramsey’s Arsenal future.

The French boss again refused to discuss the future of the Wales midfielder at length after the player recently said he wants to stay until the end of the season.

A contract impasse is likely to see the 27-year-old leave in the summer – while the club may look to cash in on Ramsey during the January transfer window.

The club recently withdrew their offer after the two parties failed to reach an agreement Ramsey, but Emery had previously indicated he wanted to keep the player.

Asked about the possibility of Ramsey, who has reportedly been interested Man Utd, Liverpool and AC Milan, staying Emery said: “For me January is very far away.

“I’m thinking about Monday’s match first. I want every player to stay OK, with the mentality to prepare, to play and be together to win.

“It’s the same, my answer. My focus is on every match. The football, the future is tomorrow. My reason, I explain to every player and to you also, I want the mentality for the next match. Individual things are not for me to speak about now.”

The former Sevilla and Paris Saint-Germain boss though hint that Ramsey remains in his thinking and will not be frozen out at The Emirates.

“I want his performance like the other players,” added Emery. “For example, in the last match he started on the bench, then he played 25 minutes with this performance.

“On Monday [against Leicester City] it’s the same if he starts in the first XI or on the bench, to come with the focus for this match to help us. It’s not different [than it is] for other players.”
