Young English forward Jadon Sancho has spoken of his delight at having signed a contract extension with Borussia Dortmund.
Sancho moved to the Bundesliga club a year ago, at the age of 17, and impressed in his first season with one goal and four assists in 12 appearances. This season, he has contributed one goal and five assists in six substitute appearances, leading to talk of a call up to the England Under-21 team.
Having extended his stay in Dortmund until 2022, the former Manchester City youngster told the German club’s website: “I am very glad that I decided to move to Dortmund just over a year ago, because everything turned out to be true: this city lives football like no other, and at BVB young players are given playing time.
“Here I can develop excellently. I am completely happy and satisfied and proud to be part of this team.”
An Under-17 World Cup winner with England a year ago, Sancho is one of several British players to have ventured abroad for more playing time in recent years.
He became the youngest ever English player to make his Champions League debut for a foreign club when he started Dortmund’s win over Club Brugge in September.
