Barcelona sporting director Eric Abidal has asked the Catalan giants to join Chelsea in the race to sign Sassuolo winger Jeremie Boga, according to reports.

Boga, who began his career with Chelsea‘s Under-21s side in 2014, failed to establish himself in the side after being sent on a series of loan spells.

The 23-year-old secured a permanent move away from Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2018 to Sassuolo, where he has scored seven goals and assisted four others in 23 appearances.

Recent reports have indicated that Chelsea have an interest in bringing the Ivory Coast international back to West London but according toΒ Le10 Sport, Barcelona have now joined the hunt for Boga.

It is claimed that Abidal has added the player to his list of targets for the summer, with the Spanish club looking to bolster their ranks ahead of the new season.

Barcelona are still searching for an emergency attacker to be brought in following serious injuries to Luis Suarez and Ousmane Dembele.

Barca have been linked with signing Real Sociedad’s Willian Jose, but European reports on Wednesday suggested that Abidal’s side had ruled out that move.

As for Chelsea’s reported interest in Boga, a move to bring him back to Stamford Bridge looks unlikely with Hakim Ziyech set to join the Blues from Ajax in the summer.

Reports broke on Wednesday that Chelsea had reached a verbal agreement with Ajax to sign the Dutch international and Ajax confirmed the deal on Thursday.

In other news, Chelsea are reportedly set to go head-to-head with Manchester United to sign exciting Birmingham City youngster Jude Bellingham.

Bellingham, 16, made his senior debut in August and has racked up 31 appearances for the Championship side while attracting interest from across Europe.

United and Chelsea – who meet in the Premier League on Monday – are two sides said to be heavily interested and according toΒ The Sun, both sides are willing to offer upwards of Β£35m for the player.
