Man Utd, Liverpool learn of Haaland plan to seal dream transfer in 2022

Erling Braut Haaland will reportedly snub interest from the Premier League in favour of Real Madrid – but is willing to wait until 2022 to do so.

Haaland has become one of the most in-demand strikers in the world since bursting onto the scene in recent years. Last season, his prolific record at RB Salzburg – for whom he scored more goals than he played games – earned him a move to Borussia Dortmund.

The Leeds-born striker has kept up his efficient record in the Bundesliga. He has scored 10 goals from 10 games so far this season, after netting 16 times from 18 appearances in the second half of the last campaign.

Haaland was already on the radar of Premier League clubs before joining Dortmund. Manchester United were frequently linked with the Norway international.

Recently, claims of a move to England have resurfaced for the 20-year-old. Once again, United have emerged as a contender for his signature – potentially as part of a double swoop for another long-term target, Jadon Sancho.

However, Liverpool have also been suggested as another suitor. One official at his former club Salzburg seems confident he will end up at Anfield.

On the contrary, a report from TodoFichajes claims Haaland’s eventual destination will not be England, but Spain.

According to the website, the former Molde striker would prefer to join Real Madrid in the future. He has already told his agent Mino Raiola that he would like to move there – namely instead of Man Utd or Bayern Munich.

Haaland planning two more years at Dortmund

However, such a move would not materialise until 2022. Haaland’s contract does not have a release clause next summer, but there will be one active in 2022, allowing clubs to sign him for €75m.

Real Madrid are prepared to play the waiting game, instead focusing their energies on signing Kylian Mbappe in 2021. The year after, though, Haaland will be a priority.

The Spanish champions have identified the Dortmund number nine as a long-term successor to Karim Benzema. The French striker will be 34 years old by the time the summer transfer window opens in 2022.

Given that Haaland would be worth at least €120m if Dortmund were allowed to negotiate their asking price in 2021, both Madrid and the player himself are willing to wait until they are helpless to accept a lower offer.

His agent Raiola does not have the best of relationships with Madrid. But the report claims Haaland is convinced he would like to play at the Bernabeu.

And even though he will not be making such a move next summer, it is unlikely to give Liverpool or Man Utd an opportunity to sign him. His plan is to stay with Dortmund until the time comes to join Madrid.
