Haaland ‘will leave Dortmund’ as two chief rivals to Man Utd emerge

Erling Haaland

Erling Haaland’s agent Mino Raiola is reportedly set to spark a transfer scramble for the striker’s services amid reports in Spain that he will leave Borussia Dortmund this summer.

Manchester United were linked with the prolific forward last January. Having worked together at Molde, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer flew out to see the 20-year-old after he blasted 29 goals in 27 games for Red Bull Salzburg.

United though apparently baulked at his Raiola’s fee involved in the deal for Haaland. Instead the Norwegian secured a move to Borussia Dortmund for just £17.2m.

Ed Woodward was also opposed to the insistence of Raiola that a release clause be inserted into his Old Trafford contract.

That clause has since been inserted into his deal at Dortmund.  This states he can leave the Westfallonstadion in 2022 should any club match his £63m release fee.

However, it’s reported Raiola is already looking to move his client on this summer. Reports on Tuesday claimed United were ready to launch a huge nine-figure bid for the Norwegian hotshot.

Reports of his departure from the Westfallonstadion are also beginning to gather pace in Spain.

According to Cat Radio, Raiola is already working to move his client on. They surprisingly state that Barcelona are in the running to sign the striker. Presidential candidate Emili Roussaud has made it his priority to land Haaland.

His aide, Josep Maria Minguellsa told the station: “We know all the conditions and if we win, the following day I will call Mino Raiola and we will accept those conditions. I have already advised him of that.

“We have a world-class sports project that is not showing just now, but Emili Rousaud has a plan that will turn this unfortunate situation (at Barcelona) around.”

Raiola has since dismissed suggestions that Haaland could join Barcelona as ‘fake news’. As such, the Daily Express report that stance will open the door to both United and Manchester City.

However, Real Madrid cannot be discounted either. They are looking to offload a number of fringe stars in order to finance a major summer rebuild.

Indeed, another Spanish outlet Diario Gol claims they, alongside Chelsea, are leading the charge for Haaland.

Furthermore, they state Frank Lampard’s side are ready to fork out as much as £89m (€100m) to sign Haaland this summer. The article claims doubts over Timo Werner have prompted the Blues to turn towards the Norwegian. One pundit has even suggested Lampard considers a change of role for Werner amid his recent struggles.

Pundit tells United to sign Haaland

Gabriel Agbonlahor, meanwhile, reckons United could guarantee Premier League glory if they signed Haaland this month.

With the striker seemingly destined to move on in 2021, Agbonlaor, speaking to talkSPORT, thinks the time to sign him is now.

“He’s the most complete striker out there for me,” Agbonlahor said. “We’re talking about Premier League clubs wanting him; I think Bayern Munich or Real Madrid are the favourites to get him.

“I feel like Borussia Dortmund can ask for whatever they want. If you’re talking about £100million for Sancho, you’re talking £180m for Haaland.

“You’re talking ridiculous money. He’ll be the most expensive player ever when he leaves Dortmund because he’s getting better.

“He’s learning, he looks hungry. He’s not happy just to be at Dortmund and score goals, he’s trying to improve his game. He is going to get better and better.”
