Euro Paper Talk: £70m Argentine desperate to force Tottenham move

Giovani Lo Celso TEAMtalk

A major Tottenham target is trying to force through a £70m move this summer, while Arsenal have opened talks to sign a new right-back, according to Tuesday’s European papers.

Real Betis midfielder Giovani Lo Celso is attempting to force through a move to Tottenham this summer.

The 23-year-old has just enjoyed an outstanding season in Spain, racking up 16 goals and six assists during a loan spell from Paris Saint-Germain.

Betis activated a purchase clause in the loan, but there’s a chance they could turn a quick profit on the Argentina international amid significant interest from Mauricio Pochettino’s men.

The latest reports suggest that Lo Celso is forcing through a move, with Tottenham so far failing with a £62m bid, made up of £50m up front and £12m in add-ons.

It’s claimed that Lo Celso’s agents now believe they’ve reached an agreement with Betis to do a deal at £70m, some way short of the £88m release clause that currently exists in his contract.

That £70m figure would appear to be in Tottenham’s range, although it would smash their previous record mark of £42m paid for Davinson Sanchez in 2017.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is looking at deals for three star players this summer as he looks to bolster his squad, according to reports.

Despite capturing a sixth European Cup in Madrid last weekend and coming painfully close to winning the Premier League, Klopp is still expected to oversee a number of ins and outs this summer.

A major overhaul is not expected by any means, and most business could be trimming squad players, but star names continue to be linked with a move to Anfield.

According to a report from Spanish outlet Don Balon, Barcelona and Real Madrid have both been alerted by interest from Liverpool in two of their major summer targets.

The dubious transfer source claims that PSG midfielder Adrien Rabiot has become a ‘priority objective’ for Klopp due to concerns over the fitness of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita, plus the impending departure of Adam Lallana.

Arsenal and Manchester United have also been linked with Rabiot, as the Frenchman is ready to depart Paris on a free this summer after failing to agree fresh terms.

Villarreal winger Samu Chukwueze is also described as a key target for the Merseyside giants this summer. The 20-year-old amassed eight goals and three assists in 38 appearances this season, and has begun attracting interest from a number of clubs.

He has been tipped as the man to replace Xherdan Shaqiri at Liverpool and currently has a release clause of €60million.

Chukwueze recently responded to speculation surrounding a move to Anfield, admitting he is flattered to be attracting interest from top clubs.

Finally, German outlet Bild state that Liverpool are firmly in the running to land Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt this summer, another player linked with Barcelona.

The paper edition states that De Ligt could be Klopp’s ‘next triumph’ after securing the Champions League title in Madrid, with the idea of pairing him with countryman Virgil van Dijk seemingly too tempting a possibility.

Manchester United are also apparently in the mix to sign the 19-year-old centre-back, who carries a reported price tag of €85million.
