An AC Milan defender has dropped a hint that he could move to the Premier League in the new year, while Real Madrid have performed a U-turn in their chase for Christian Eriksen, according to Friday’s European press.

AC Milan captain Alessio Romagnoli has revealed that he ‘has to’ play in the Champions League in the near future.

Romagnoli joined Milan in a €25million deal four years ago and established himself as one of the club’s key performers in that time.

The 24-year-old was rewarded by being given the captaincy at the start of last season and is also a regular at international level with Italy.

However, the stopper, has revealed his ambitions to play Champions League football in the near future, something which puts pressure on Milan, as reported by SempreMilan.

Romagnoli was linked with a move to Manchester United before they signed Harry Maguire, while Manchester City are also believed to be considering a move for the player in January due to Aymeric Laporte’s long-term injury.

“I’d love to play in the Champions League and indeed I have to, because you can’t develop as a player without being in that tournament. I hope to experience it very soon,” Romagnoli told Rai Sport, via Football Italia, when asked about his development at Milan.
