Euro Paper Talk: Arsenal’s Benzema hope; Costa’s La Liga escape

Arsenal have been given hope of a deal for long-term target Karim Benzema, while a Chelsea star has been offered the chance to move to La Liga, according to Thursday’s European papers.

Arsenal will do all in their power to secure a deal for Karim Benzema before the transfer window shuts, according to reports in Spain.

Don Balon reports Arsene Wenger has wanted to sign the France striker since 2009 when the player first left Lyon for the Bernabeu and has tried at various stages during the intervening years to bring him to north London.

The paper claims Wenger remains desperate to pursue a deal for Benzema this month and could even sacrifice Alexis Sanchez as part of the deal to bring the striker, now 29, to the club.

The 29-year-old has been a big hit at the Bernabeu, scoring 181 goals to break into their top ten scorers of all time.

However, despite starring in Wednesday’s Super Cup win over Barcelona, doubts over his future remain and there are growing reports in Spain that Real are ready to finally cash in.

Deportivo La Coruna are interested in signing Diego Costa on a temporary basis, according to reports in Spain.

Costa wants to rejoin Atletico Madrid but a deal is hampered by the club’s transfer embargo.

Chelsea are keen to sell and a deal with Atletico could be reached whereby he joins the capital club and then moves on loan to Deportivo.

Newspaper Estadio Deportivo claim manager Pepe Mel is keen to bring in a new striker, with Lucas Perez and Carlos Vela also on his radar.

Arsenal and Tottenham are locked in a battle with Inter Milan to sign Caen winger Yann Karamoh, according to reports.

The Ivory Coast-born winger, 19, is rated at €10m by Caen, and it seems they are ready to cash in on the player after Sky Italia claimed they had invited bids for the twice-capped France U21 star.

Inter have already seen two offers rejected by Caen, and despite holding further talks over a deal, it’s believed they could yet be pipped by Arsenal or Tottenham, who have both had scouts watch him in the past.

The player has featured 35 times for his club, scoring five times, since making his debut last August.

Chelsea have made a £13.6m bid for Southampton right-back Cedric Soares and a £50m offer to Tottenham for Danny Rose, according to reports.

It’s claimed Antonio Conte will move for the duo after seeing efforts to land top targets Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Alex Sandro thwarted.

Corriere dello Sport claim Chelsea saw a fresh £73m offer for Sandro rejected by Juventus this week, while Arsenal are reluctant to sell Oxlade-Chamberlain despite claims a £35m offer has been made.

And the Italian paper claim a deal for Soares is close, with the Portugal star also on the radar of Barcelona and Juventus.

However, claims Chelsea have made their move to sign the player with Saints apparently ready to sell.

Antonio Conte is a big fan of Soares but will need to act fast if he wants to beat Barcelona and Juventus to his signature.
