Euro Paper Talk: Liverpool v United for PSV star; Arsenal eye Porto ace

Arsenal are battling Spurs and Real Madrid for Aaron Ramsey’s replacement, while Liverpool and Man Utd both want to sign a talented PSV youngster, according to Monday’s European papers.

ARSENAL LINE UP RAMSEY REPLACEMENT

Arsenal boss Unai Emery has identified the man who could potentially replace contract rebel Aaron Ramsey, a report claims.

According to Portuguese outlet A Bola, Arsenal are keeping their options open regarding the situation surrounding Ramsey.

A contract offer to Ramsey was withdrawn last month but the Wales star showed his quality when he created and finished a stunning team move to help the Gunners to a ninth straight win in all competitions – their best run since April 2015.

The Gunners have reportedly now joined Real Madrid, Roma and Inter Milan in the race to sign Porto midfielder Hector Herrera.

The 28-year-old has a contract with the Portuguese giants which expires in June 2019, meaning will be free to negotiate his future from next January.

Tottenham are also apparently eyeing Herrera in case they fail to land Frenkie De Jong from Ajax, with reports in the Italian media claiming the club faces a straight battle with Roma.

MAN UTD, LIVERPOOL LEAD JANUARY CHARGE FOR PSV FRONTMAN

Manchester United and Liverpool are heading the queue to sign in-demand PSV Eindhoven attacker Steven Bergwijn, according to reports.

Italian publication Calciomercato suggested on Sunday evening that the 20-year-old was the subject of January interest from Inter Milan, Bayer Leverkusen and Sevilla.

However, Spanish newspaper Sport has taken the report on a step further by suggesting both Liverpool and United had already contacted the Eredivisie club to confirm their intentions to meet his €20m (£17.5m) exit clause in his contract.

The Holland U21 international has been in fine form this season, having scored five times and registering two assists in his 12 appearances so far and has also impressed in both the club’s two Champions League matches to date this term.

PSV, who lured the youngster from Ajax’s youth academy back in 2011, want to tie the attacker down to a new deal, but it seems increasingly likely that he could be enticed away when the transfer window reopens in just 85 days time.
