Euro Paper Talk: Arsenal, Man Utd fall behind in race for cut-price Russian star
Juventus have placed a bid for an Arsenal and Manchester United target, while United are ahead in the chase to sign a former Manchester City defender, according to Monday’s European papers.
JUVENTUS LODGE BID FOR £22M ARSENAL, MAN UTD TARGET
According to a report from Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus are in pole position to sign Russian ace Aleksandr Golovin after placing a £13m bid.
However, the Russian club are apparently holding out for £22million, following a season in which he scored seven and added six assists in 43 appearances across all competitions
Meanwhile, The Sun claims that United boss Jose Mourinho wants to watch Golovin play again before deciding whether or not to place a bid.
It is possible that the Red Devils could look for attacking reinforcements with Anthony Martial’s future at the club uncertain.
MAN UTD TO BEAT REAL MADRID TO GERMANY STAR
Manchester United will beat Real Madrid to the signing of a Bayern Munich defender, according to reports.
Germany international Jerome Boateng has been linked with an exit from the Bundesliga champions this summer, and recently declared his interest in a move back to the Premier League.
“Foreign counties are always interesting,” the former Man City man revealed.
“You do not have many chances. Everyone has to decide for himself whether he wants to gain experience again.
“I’m a different age now than I was at Manchester City and now at the point of thinking about it again.
“Of course, it’s very difficult to get away from Bayern. That would not be a decision against Bayern, I’ve been feeling very well in Munich for years.”
Reports in Spain (via the Mirror) now claim that a return to Manchester with the Red Devils is now more likely than a move to the Bernabeu.
Jose Mourinho has apparently got the “upper hand” in negotiations for the defender, currently valued at £40.5million by Transfermarkt.
However, Germain outlet Abendzeitung claims Juventus are also considering a move for Boateng.
