Euro Paper Talk: Arsenal in massive midfield boost as dynamic target makes ‘irreversible decision’ to move; Chelsea favourite’s next club named

Sandro Tonali and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic

Arsenal have an increasing chance of strengthening their midfield with an established Serie A star in the summer, while a new destination has been found for a popular Chelsea man – all in Monday’s Euro transfer gossip.

MILINKOVIC-SAVIC KEEN ON ARSENAL MOVE

Arsenal have renewed optimism of signing a midfielder whose links with them went colder in the January transfer window, according to reports.

Strengthening in midfield was one of the main tasks Arsenal were focusing on towards the end of last month. They tried to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton, but had to settle for Jorginho from Chelsea instead.

More of a short-term option, Jorginho’s arrival will not necessarily negate the need for another midfielder in the summer. Therefore, players like Caicedo could come back onto their radar.

But another, more proven midfielder they could pursue – and have been linked with before – is Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

After frequent links with Manchester United, Milinkovic-Savic ended up on Arsenal’s radar last summer. Ultimately, he entered an eighth season with Lazio.

Arsenal have remained contenders for Milinkovic-Savic ever since. He was mentioned again as a target in early January, before the focus seemingly turned elsewhere.

But now, the Serbia international has emerged as a realistic option for Arsenal again ahead of the summer.

According to Corriere Dello Sport, Arsenal are the “favourite destination” for Milinkovic-Savic. He is more keen on them now that the Premier League leaders are proving their credentials as challengers for major honours.

Arsenal could get midfielder for good price

Consequently, the Spanish-born star has made an “irreversible decision” to leave Lazio in the summer. By then, he will have just one year remaining on his contract. Since he does not want to leave the club for free, he is ready to move on while they can still make money from him.

In turn, Arsenal are in pole position to bring in the 27-year-old, whose value is decreasing due to his contract situation. Indeed, they may be able to sign him for less than €50million (£44.7m).

Lazio are well aware of Milinkovic-Savic’s stance, which has been communicated to them by his agent, Mateja Kezman.

Therefore, they are preparing for the midfielder’s move away, which could well be to Arsenal.
