Liverpool have been given fresh hope of signing shattering their transfer record for a France star next month, while Man Utd are looking to lure a Portugal playmaker to Old Trafford, according to Monday’s European papers.
BARCELONA SETTLE ON DEMBELE REPLACEMENT
Liverpool find themselves in pole position to land Ousmane Dembele in January after a reported double twist in the saga.
According to Don Balon, Barca have already sounded out Borussia Dortmund over a €100million offer for Jadon Sancho after deciding they see the England teenager as their No 1 replacement for the winger.
And it’s claimed Barcelona believe they can finance the move for Sancho by cashing in on Dembele – with three contenders for his signature having already tabled offers.
And Spanish publication Don Balon reckons Arsenal and Liverpool have now been joined by Atletico Madrid in the hunt for the France winger – and it’s Atletico’s bid of €105million which tops the lot.
However, it’s claimed Barca are dead against selling Dembele to a direct rival and will instead look to flog the player to the next highest bidder – with the apparent €100m approach from Liverpool dwarving the €80million on the table from Arsenal.
And with the LaLiga champions intent on selling him to Jurgen Klopp’s side, that prospective deal would shatter Liverpool’s record outlay – currently £75m for Virgil van Dijk – with Dembele set to cost £89m under the current exchange rate.
GUEDES HOPES ALIVE FOR MANCHESTER UNITED
Manchester United have been boosted in their long-term interest in Goncalo Guedes, according to reports in Spain.
The Valencia star has long been on Jose Mourinho’s list of targets and hope of luring him to Old Trafford has been significantly lifted by claims that he has fallen out with Los Che coach Marcelino.
TV station Movistar picked up on a heated discussion between the two during Saturday night’s match at Real Madrid, which Los Blancos won 2-0, a result that leaves Valencia – who finished fourth last season – struggling down in 14th place in LaLiga.
The cameras picked up on the under-pressure Valencia coach calling over the Portuguese forward over towards him, before stating “there have been 27 minutes, and you have not yet done anything”. Suffice to say, the Guedes reacted unfavourably to his manager’s words.
Marcelino tried to move himself away from claims he has fallen out with the player, but sections of the Spanish press believe Manchester United could come back in for the former PSG man when the transfer window opens next month.
United could attempt to sweeten the deal by sanctioning the departures of one of Ander Herrera in return, with Guedes rated at around the €65million mark.
