There are still question marks over Anthony Martial, while Napoli will attempt to fend off Liverpool and Chelsea by offering new deals to two stars, according to Friday’s European papers.
MARTIAL FUTURE REMAINS UNSOLVED
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho remained coy when asked about Anthony Martial’s new contract at Old Trafford.
It has been a turbulent summer for Martial at Old Trafford with the Frenchman continually linked with a move away from the club, while Mourinho was unhappy after he failed to return to their US tour after he was given leave to witness the birth of his second child.
However, Martial has been reportedly been offered a new long-term contract at United, despite considerable doubts over his time at Old Trafford under Jose Mourinho.
Some reports suggest the French international feels he can ‘outlast’ the manager, and could therefore commit his future to the club.
Mourinho was understood to have been keen to sell Martial this summer to generate funds that he could use to further strengthen his squad, with a £65m move to Spurs touted.
The Portuguese has addressed speculation of a new deal, as quoted by the MEN:”With Martial, you have to wait for that to be official because in this moment is not official.”
NAPOLI PLOT NEW DEALS FOR €400M DUO
Serie A giants Napoli have hatched a plan to fend off interest in two of their star players, according to the latest reports.
Italian outlet Tuttosport (via Calciomercato) claims that last year’s Serie A runners-up are poised offer new deals to both midfielder Piotr Zielinski – linked with Liverpool – and defender Kalidou Koulibaly.
In addition, the report states that Napoli will try to insert a €200m release clause in the contracts of both players in order to ward off interest from Chelsea.
Both Koulibaly and Zielinski are currently on deals running until 2021, but president Aurelio de Laurentiis has already approved the renewal.
Tuttosport do state though that the clauses could be a potential sticking point, as the salary of the two players would have to correspond.
