Euro Paper Talk: Man Utd target Rakitic makes Barca decision

Liverpool have been given hope in their bid to sign a new goalkeeper this summer, while Ivan Rakitic has made a decision on his Barcelona future, according to Friday’s Deadline Day Euro Paper Talk.

Liverpool have reportedly had a bid of €24m (£20.1m) rejected in their efforts to sign a back-up goalkeeper for Alisson.

Trabzonspor star Ugurcan Cakir is the player in question, with the Reds having been linked with the 23-year-old since last summer.

There have been claims that the runaway Premier League leaders have been sending scouts to Turkey to watch the player in action for some time.

And Turkish newspaper claim Karadeniz Firtinasi goes one step further by saying that a €24m bid from Liverpool has been rejected, with Trabzonspor determined to keep Cakir in their squad until the end of the season.

The Turkish outfit are well in the mix for the Super Lig title and subsequently do not want to lose any key players before Friday’s transfer deadline.

However, it is also reported that Trabzonspor are getting ready for a massive summer sale, and that Cakir, who is under contract until 2024, could be one of the players that will leave.

Liverpool did sign experienced stopper Adrian on a two-year deal last summer, but its thought that Cakir is viewed as a long-term option to act as back-up to No.1 Alisson for years to come.
